Ten years ago, in the low mountains of les Cévennes, France,
I was discovering the fascinating process through which a raw bolder of granite,
a chunk of Nature, is turned into the delicate polished edge of a kitchen counter,
a most useful human commodity. Since then I have learned to manipulate, cut, carve and texture all sorts of stone (from granite to soap stone) for a wide range of architectural pieces (windows, arches, doors, fountains, etc).
Along with that masonry aspect of the craft, I have always enjoyed engraving,
either for the moving solemnity of a tombstone, or for the playful simplicity of a garden motto.
Today I am fully dedicated to that most ancient tradition by which humanity, generations after generations, from the glorious hieroglyphs of the Karnak columns, to the humble slab of a doorway, is honoring as well as keeping alive the memory of the past and nurturing a sense of poetry.
